¿QUÉ ES BIPV?
EL CONCEPTO
LA ENERGÍA SOLAR FOTOVOLTAICA INTEGRADA A LA ARQUITECTURA o BUILDING INTEGRATED PHOTOVOLTAICS - BIPV- son materiales fotovoltaicos usados para reemplazar materiales convencionales de construcción, en partes tales como el techo, claraboyas, fachadas, muros cortina, ventanas, pérgolas y pisos. ¡Son los primeros materiales de construcción que "se pagan así mísmos" generando electricidad con el sol!.
EL VIDRIO FOTOVOLTAICO
El material más ampliamente usado para BIPV es el vidrio fotovoltaico, con gran variedad de formas, colores, tamaños, espesores y grados de transparencia. Esto facilita su integración en un amplio rango de proyectos y diseños. Al tener el mismo grado de aislamiento térmico y acústico que un vidrio convencional, junto con la capacidad de generar electricidad limpia y gratuita del sol, permite que los edificios incrementen drásticamente su eficiencia energética, disminuyendo los costos de mantenimiento y operación.
TEJAS SOLARES
Las tejas solares o tejas fotovoltaicas, son paneles solares diseñados para lucir y funcionar como tejas convencionales, tales como tejas de asfalto, laminadas, o de arcilla, al mismo tiempo que producen electricidad. Un techo solar es el único que "se paga a sí mísmo".
PANELES SOLARES FLEXIBLES
Son módulos fotovoltaicos que pesan 3 kg por metro cuadrado, 6 veces menos que los convencionales, que pesan 18 kg por metro cuadrado. Se usan en cubiertas que no fueron diseñadas para soportar esas fuerzas, o en cubiertas que no pueden ser perforadas.

Luis Fernando Mulcue Nieto, Ph.D.
Luis has more than 20 distinctions in the fields of engineering, renewable energy, and physics; granted by institutions in the USA, Europe, and Latin America. He has developed and published scientific models and technical regulations in BIPV. He is also investigating the design of more economical and efficient solar cells for BIPV.

Carlos is Electromechanical Engineer with experience in solar installations since 1997, with more than 2.000 installations.
