There is a growing interest in BIPV technologies (Solar Architecture). Often thanks to photovoltaic technology developers, who seek to improve the efficiency of integrable technology.

A clear example is HANERGY, one of the world's leading manufacturers, who announced a few months ago that they have optimized the flexible half-cell mono-perc silicon module to respond to the growing BIPV market.

The semi-flex module was launched in 2018 and has been continuously upgraded and optimized since then. This product offers high flexibility and high efficiency (of 21.8%) to be able to adapt to different scenarios according to the needs of each project or customer anywhere in the world: Europe, Japan, Australia, etc.

In fact, conventional (non-flexible) commercial silicon panels have a maximum average efficiency of 21.5%, so it is the first time in history where a flexible technology module surpasses rigid modules in efficiency.

The semi-flexible module is based on Metal Wrap Through Technology (MWT). MWT is an advanced back contact technology that allows increasing the efficiency of the solar cell and the module by 3% over conventional modules.

It is achieved by eliminating the front bus bar and deploying the positive and negative electrodes at the rear.

A 370 W module is based on silicon and weighs 6kg, 4 to 5 times less than a conventional module, making it very light. And it has a thickness of 1.4mm while the conventional module has a thickness between 35 and 44mm allowing an incredible flexibility with respect to a conventional panel.

All of the above makes the semi-flexible module particularly suitable for application in BIPV in many scenarios where lightness is essential: roofs with low load-bearing capacity, facades, sunshades, and even curved surfaces, etc.

With the help of lead-free polymeric materials, the front layer has extraordinary bending flexibility and a minimum bending radius of 25 cm, which greatly expands the application and possibilities by producing an environmentally friendly material.

The new semi-flexible module has obtained TUV certification. First-year degradation is less than 2% and linear power output is guaranteed to be over 82% in 25 years.
