Surely many of the readers of this post think that lightweight solar technology is not implemented, that it is a thing of the near future and therefore is a technology still under development. But what if we told you that there are already industrial photovoltaic systems equipped with lightweight panels?
In Nagano Japan, after four months of installation and commissioning tests to verify correct operation, the first industrial-scale solar photovoltaic project equipped with lightweight, flexible MWT panels has begun operation.
This project, which has been customized due to the requirements of the implementing industry, has been developed by a special R&D team.
To meet the actual installation conditions, such as the low allowable load of the roof and the large space resulting in fewer mounting points, they decided to use a light and semi-flexible photovoltaic panel of small dimensions, applying an adhesive on the back of the panel, which facilitated installation and saved costs.

These panels, as mentioned above, were designed and adapted by a special R&D team and therefore have a particular design for the customer's large roof space.

The panels used are endowed with a long, narrow shape that could be adhered to a metal roof by means of a specific weathering adhesive. This significantly reduces installation time and costs and all that goes with it:
In addition, the panels, created with special flexible organic polymer materials as the encapsulation base and specially designed 2D encapsulation technology, have a very low thickness and weight: only 1.4 mm and 1.3 kg per unit.
This allows photovoltaic installations on existing buildings without major problems due to roof overloads that were most likely not considered when the roof was built.

From an environmental point of view, the MWT technology of HANERGY's semi-flexible solar panels is free of solder strips. Thus, the use of heavy metals, such as lead, is completely eliminated.
This success story highlights the versatility of lightweight photovoltaic panels and the importance of having technologies such as MWT that allow products to be customized according to the particular needs of each project. Thus bringing better solutions to the sector that are more efficient and applicable in real contexts.
