THE CONCEPT
THE SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY INTEGRATED TO THE ARCHITECTURE or BUILDING INTEGRATED PHOTOVOLTAICS -BIPV- are photovoltaic materials used to replace conventional building materials, in parts such as the roof, skylights, facades, curtain walls, windows, carports, and floors. They are the first building materials that "pay for themselves" by generating electricity with the sun!
PHOTOVOLTAIC GLASS
The most widely used material for BIPV is photovoltaic glass, with a wide variety of shapes, colors, sizes, thicknesses, and degrees of transparency. This facilitates its integration into a wide range of projects and designs. By having the same degree of thermal and acoustic insulation as conventional glass, together with the ability to generate clean and free electricity from the sun, it allows buildings to dramatically increase their energy efficiency, lowering maintenance and operating costs.
SOLAR TILESA solar roof uses photovoltaic tiles, which are solar panels designed to look and function like conventional roofing materials, such as asphalt, laminate, or ceramic tiles, while also producing electricity. A solar roof is the only one that "pays for itself."
There are a variety of advanced technologies used in BIPV building materials. Among these technologies are flexible solar panels, photovoltaic glass, amorphous silicon, quantum glass, organic solar cells, among others. In the manufacturers section you can explore more.
